![]() ![]() The occipitalis minor muscle may be fused with the auricularis posterior muscle and may be located deep or superficial to the cranial fibers of the trapezius muscle. The erector spinae group of muscles consists of the iliocostalis, longissiumus, and spinalis muscles, all of which have complicated arrangements of superior and inferior attachments. The entire muscle may be absent either unilaterally or bilaterally. Deep: Interspinales, Intertransversarii And Levatores Costarum. The various portions of the latissimus dorsi muscle may be separated into fascicles. The levatores costarum muscle tissue are situated in the thoracic region of the vertebral. The trapezius and sternocleidomastoid muscles develop from the same embryologic anlage the ventral portion forms the sternocleidomastoid and the dorsal portion makes the trapezius. This chapter talks about the different back muscles: trapezius, latissimus dorsi, levator scapulae, rhomboid major and minor, serratus anterior, serratus posterior superior and inferior and supracostalis, splenius capitis and cervicis muscles, erector spinae, transversospinalis, suboccipital muscles, occipitalis minor, intertransversarii, interspinales, levatores costarum brevis and longus, and quadratus lumborum.
